About the Golden Cock
The Golden Cock pub is thought, in part, to be over 200 years old. however, the new wing on which stands the famous Golden Cock weather vane was added in 1875. The pub was always a social meeting place for the village and had various rooms including a “tap” room into which no women were allowed! Outside the pub there was a wooden pump which was used by villagers in nearby cottages up until 1939. On August 3rd 2014 a memorial to the fallen of World War 1 was unveiled in the place where the pump used to stand.
The Golden Cock has been considerably altered in recent years but remains a popular eating place for people from far and near, serving good food and a decent range of drinks, including guest beers. There is a weekly pub quiz on Sundays at 7pm (booking a table in advance is advised), and often plays host to live music. The local Knit & Natter group also meet there.
